Last week I posted about the first planned phase of my lifestyle changes. How am I getting on?

Diet changes

Every day this week, I have had a breakfast as planned. It has always been the wholemeal toast. I haven’t been able to face a scrambled egg in the morning, yet.

Weekday lunches have been consciously planned too. They have usually been the same chicken fillet roll, but I haven’t been having them with optional extras, such as carb-heavy potato wedges or donuts. So that’s good.

I am proud of my Tuesday & Thursday evening meals. Tuesday didn’t go exactly as planned, because I had a podiatrist appointment early in the morning and Pilates in the evening, but on Thursday I made a simple pasta sauce (chopped tomatoes, onion, garlic, oregano, tomato puree, and olive oil) and we had pasta with it. I froze the excess sauce to use later.

I have bought an air fryer. I used it to cook this evening’s meal – marinated chicken breast. Like any new tool, it will take time to learn, but I will get there, and it seems to be easier than using the oven.

Exercise changes

This week, I swam twice (and had a noticeably improved performance both times) and I went to Pilates. The data from my Apple Watch looks good too.

Summary and conclusion

So I kinda met the diet goals, and I definitely met the exercise goals, which is good.

Week 2

This week, I want to stay doing what I am doing with the exercise, and my diet plans are:

  • Breakfast is two slices of whole toast and an optional scrambled egg.
  • Lunch will be chicken fillet rolls, with an optional cafe lunch on a day when Michael isn’t on dialysis.
  • Tuesday and Thursday dinners will be pasta and sauce again.

I also want to get better at using the air fryer.

  1. Sunday is the only day when I didn’t hit 10k steps, but I’m writing this at 19:25. Chances are, I’ll get another few hundred steps today before bed, but in any case I am well over 70k steps this week, so on average I’m doing more than 10k per day…. ↩︎
