About

Well, hello. I am Andrew, and this blog is about me and my life with type 2 diabetes.

Originally, I had planned to make it at least attempt to be anonymous, but I want to talk about my whole life. I am a technical writer who lives in the Irish Midlands (well, kinda) with my husband. My husband has a number of health conditions, including kidney failure, HIV, and autism. There aren’t that many gay married serodiscordant couples where the negative partner has type 2 diabetes and the positive partner is on dialysis. So, yeah, I thought there was no point in trying to be anonymous.

Why Typo2?

I am a technical writer with type 2 diabetes. Typo2 is a pun, or a play on words.

It is OK if you don’t get it. Technical writer humour, like sugar, is not suitable for everyone.

People in my life

There are a lot of people in my life, and many of them have a direct impact on my life with type 2 diabetes. I refer to them by nicknames when I’m trying to keep them anonymous.

  • Michael is my husband. He writes a blog about living with HIV, and I cannot imagine my life without him. He’s also an admin on this blog, and has my permission to change this description of him if he wants.
  • Belfast Friend is a friend in Belfast. He was the first person I phoned when I got the news. One of the things he said was “It’ll be grand. Sure, you are old enough now that you don’t have to worry about the long-term complications.” Despite that, he is actually a good friend.
  • English Friend is a friend who is English. Scientifically minded, and I love him more than I can say. We don’t see each other nearly often enough. Being an adult sucks.
  • Gregory is my diabetes support bear; friend and associate of the slightly famous dialysis support bear, Liam.
