When I was in hospital, I was scared. I didn’t know how I would cope with it all. To distract myself, I scrolled through Instagram. I saw one reel from a man whose father was alcoholic. He was recalling the day his father got out of rehab. He asked his father if he was going to be sober for the rest of his life.
“I can’t promise that,” said his father, “but I can promise I will be sober today.”
His father remained sober for the rest of his life.
When I was in hospital I was terrified at the thought of managing type 2 diabetes for the rest of my life.
But I don’t have to; I just have to manage it today. And with that attitude I hope to manage it for the rest of my life.
